This system of serial numbers is unique to this model until about 1955 (even though Fender went to a universal neckplate serial number system on all instruments in 1954, some old style Precision Bass serialized bridges were still left over and used until 1955.). The Fender F-3 and F-5 models (notched headstocks) were made in 1980 to 1981, so you are correct about the date of manufacture. However, these models were budget instruments that only resell for between $30.00 to $50.00 USD per Blue Book, and if yours is in average condition (nicks and dings) it's in the $30.00 USD value. Hello fellows, im going to buy a clean fender 65 deluxe reverb and just want to make sure it is only a few years old. Can some give me a site where i can look up the serial number and get what year it was built.any other info to look for also would be great. I could have bought a new one 2 years ar gc for 850.00 and they now have seem to spiked up in price. Not sure if fenders price went up. My F65 has a strange serial compared to the aforementioned, and I am having trouble dating it exactly. Bought it off an older gentleman who had this beauty sitting in his attic since he bought is seemingly for a ridiculously low price of $100 with it's hardshell case. It has those gorgeous snowflake styled inlays, fender tuners and all but the sticker inside says the serial is F7826618. Whether it's a fake or not I'm sure the hardshell case is worth what I paid, and it's sound is wonderfawesome (look up my name on YouTube and check out some of the newer acoustic posts if you care to give a listen) ..but I want all the info on it I can find yet I can't seem to find anything out about this one using the serial. The original owner said he bought it in the early 70's and couldn't recall what he'd paid. It was also from a local reputable music shop in the town I reside currently so I can't really imagine it being a fake..but I can't help to wonder since I can't find any info and the serial #'s in this thread are indicative of such. Here is a pic of it; Really is a lovely acoustic regardless, but for the sake of knowing/curiosity..
